Why They Fight

Soon I got used to the growing deaths tolls, and “collateral damage,”
tens of thousands of victims in Iraq, and elsewhere.
But eventually body counts make no difference.

I used to think my grandfather, and his aged, as veteran, as old.
But the U.S.A. thought me new meaning.
A veteran is an eighteen-year old, a twenty-year old,
buried in silence, chained in pains.

Then I realized they put every generation to war
for glorious is the U.S.A., glory, glory Halleluja!
